The medication is charged so that it is pushed into the skin by an active electrode, and its molecules are small enough that it "soaks” into the treatment area.
Iontophoresis is often a better alternative to cortisone injection when the injured tissues or surrounding tissue may be compromised or irritated by local needle trauma.
Iontophoresis is prescribed by our Sports Medicine Doctors and can take up to 30 minutes to be administered.
